Hello summer! It’s time for fabulous fun whether you are vacationing, going to school or even working. Whatever you are doing this summer, you can make it even better by sprucing up your TWA with fabulous style. If you are in the market for a second Big Chop (BC) or first-time going natural, the TWA is almost synonymous with natural hair or going natural.
Great Products For Your TWA
What Is A TWA?
The beloved TWA (Teeny Weeny Afro) is a staple in the natural hair movement and self-explanatory. Although hailed as an “Afro”, the TWA is just natural hair short and usually the same length all the way around. It can be in any state of curl, kink or coil and the usual styles most women start with after the Big Chop. They are one of the best short hairstyles to have fun with.
Now that we’ve got the basics down, let’s check out some great styles that are super popular this summer. From the easy to the most complicated, we have you covered in every way possible. Yes, some will require accessories, but most will not!
Au naturel & Short
You cannot go wrong by just rocking your hair “as is”. We love it! Just do your thing and go. Whether that be a wash and go, rocking it ultra short and using a pick or barely rubbing with your fingers; how you plan on rocking it while short and sweet is a winner!
Some are opting for even a rather bald head but no matter which way you go, this is perfect for summer and will go well for any and every event you’ve got planned. Just head to your hairdresser or barber to get the perfect cut and line.
Always a winner, the side part was MADE for the TWA. A side part gives your TWA depth along with funkiness that is simple yet elegant. It’s also going to grow out well and look fabulous into the next stage of natural hair.
This style can be created on bald to no-so-bald and can be done by yourself or a hairdresser if you want to give it more distinction. However you choose to rock this, know this even looks amazing with designed parts.
Yaass! See how lovely this looks! Talk about being ready for every event you’ve got planned this summer in no time and looking better than EVERYONE in the place with this beautiful cut.
Color your TWA
We would be remiss if we did not suggest rocking a TWA with some bold and beautiful colors. This year, the bolder the better from pastels to harder hues, this year is about hitting the color wheel with a vengeance.
No on is suggesting you have to pick just one color either. Have fun and be funky with it. With all the temporary hair dyes out here from chalk to sprays, the world is your color pallet so have at it!
Pins and more Pins!
Not a new trend in 2019 but gaining much ground, rocking pins in our natural hair is hot! No, I’m not the biggest fan of this look but I cannot deny how fabulous some of these pins really look in our hair and I am definitely more of a fan of the more flashy pins than regular bobby pins some have been wearing.
You can play up your side part, add some drama to your slicked down look or just throw them in for fun, pins are adding texture to our hair and perfect for sprucing up a TWA. You can get any old bobby pin to do the trick but there are tons of pins from neon colors to ultra bling to choose from for some extra fun just like the ones below.
Hair Pins to spice up your TWA
The object is to have fun or to accentuate your personality when styling your hair. Honestly, there are a lot of ways to do that but I must admit, using these expression-filled pins are not only giving your look life, but it is shouting to everyone what’s on your mind!
Scarves / Head wraps
I’ve been getting more into this look and have to admit, they can add real flavor to a boring outfit. Whether you opt for a colorful one or just a solid, they not only add an interesting style to your look, but they are accessorize your hair. Having a TWA does not keep you from trying one out as they take your look up a notch, especially if your outfit is plain.
I must share that I get way more looks now that I’ve been playing with head wraps and scarves. I get more compliments and smiles as my plain old wash and go is looking more dolled up with a pretty pattern.
This style is versatile. You can have hair completely covered, slightly peeking out or all the way out. It’s really up to you. It’s also a great look for those days when you are not feeling your hair, look or just not in the mood to do much to your TWA.
2019 is all about taking your look to the next level, and that goes for your TWA as well. Don’t feel limited by using the basics when it comes to your TWA. Headbands are nice and pairing with big earrings are always fashionable, but don’t sleep on these expert looks that will take your TWA style to the next level!
Have fun this summer Newbies,
