A big concern for women going natural for the first, second or even third time. All too often while allowing a relaxer to grow out or even right after a big chop, many women experience some hair loss and become discouraged on their natural hair journey. There’s no need to fret if you are worried about spending a ton of my on expensive hair loss remedies to help combat your hair loss. There are simpler and less expensive routes to take.
How To Fight Hair Loss Naturally
Three in particular are what I call the three C’s for hair loss, Caffeine, Cayenne and Cinnamon. These three items are by far the cheapest, easiest to get and hard-working hair loss remedies found right in your very kitchen! Not always considered for hair, these substances all have proven hair growth properties that aid in your hair loss problems. Let’s get started on learning what they are, what they do and how you can use them to gain longer and stronger tresses.
CAFFEINE
Whether you love coffee, tea or even soda, caffeine is what gives you that jolt and has you craving for more. Caffeine is what you are craving and according to MNT, caffeine is “a bitter, white crystalline xanthine alkaloid – a term used for substances produced as end products of nitrogen metabolism in some plants.” This substance stimulates our Central Nervous System and can be found in over 60 plants. Now, the FDA DOES classify caffeine as a drug and a food additive but did you know it also encourages hair growth?
The biggest benefit caffeine brings to hair is to improve hair growth and structure. Caffeine stimulates and interacts with the hair follicles and even regulates hair growth so it can promote it and thwart hair loss. You can just keep drinking your morning cup of Joe to gain that benefit or you can take it a step further (like I do) and enlist in a coffee rinse from time to time to help with hair shedding. I love this easy hair loss remedy!
Here’s a breakdown of what you can expect from using it. Caffeine must be applied directly to hair for this benefit (through coffee or tea) which adds shine as well as depth to dark hair. Great for hair butters or conditioners to just add to them to increase hair’s natural sheen or shine that many naturals complain their hair is lacking.
Hair Growth, Vitamins Most Popular With Naturals
Just brew a strong cup of coffee, espresso or black tea (all three are great hair loss remedies) and allow to cool. Pour over your head after you wash and condition. Leave in for 20 minutes and then rinse out. I just pour it over my head after I condition, add my deep conditioner and let the mixture set under my thermal cap for 30 minutes before rinsing out. I LOVE the smell of the coffee mixed with my deep conditioner and feels it gives me and my hair a real pick me up.
CAYENNE
One of the spicier hair loss remedies, Cayenne or Cayenne pepper hot chili pepper in the Capsicum family and originated in Central and South America. Cayenne peppers are closely related to bell peppers and jalapeños and have been and still are a popular spice used in many different regional styles of cooking, and they have been used medicinally for thousands of years.
Cayenne pepper has anti- inflammatory, anti- allergen, anti-fungal and anti-irritant properties and contains vitamin A, vitamin B6, vitamin C, beta-carotene, manganese and potassium. While all are amazing for our bodies, these properties are great for stopping hair loss and promoting hair growth. In a nutshell it’s the capsaicin in cayenne pepper that stimulates hair growth by stimulating blood circulation to the hair follicles, which ensures better nutrition along with healthier hair growth. Capsaicin also stimulates dormant hair follicles thus helping hair volume and thickness and if that’s not enough, it can even add some sheen and softness to your tresses.

Capsaicin is far from alone in being the only benefiting compound for hair. Here’s a more thorough list of properties and how they assist:
Vitamin A regenerates damaged cells.
Vitamin C increase tolerance to outer exposure.
Vitamin B6 activates hair growth, reducing baldness.
Potassium soothes and hydrates skin.
Magnesium makes blood vessels stronger.
Iron provides cells with enough oxygen.
1,5 % Essential oils sooth and soften capsaicin activity.
Fatty oils have strengthening and protecting effect.
Folic Acid (Folate) speeds up cell division. it contributes to natural growth faster.
Manganese deficiency cause slow hair growth.
Niacin (B3) transform carbohydrates into energy. It helps to maintain the structure of the blood cells and improves blood circulation
Thiamine (B1) essential to the healthy functioning of the body. Take part in developing proteins such as keratin, which is the protein used by the body to create hair
Phylloquinone (K) moisturizes, saving hair from dryness
Results of using cayenne pepper mask on hair:
strengthens the hair follicles
speeds up hair growth

I”m a little scared of cayenne so I’ve enlisted the help of Beautyklove for her easy to follow video sharing her much-loved cayenne pepper hair growth oil. For best results, allow to set for at least a week (even go for two) as she does for best resutls. Remember, just as she states give it a few month for results, always be patients when it comes to hair growth or any hair loss remedy.
As we head over to the sweeter side of combating hair loss, cinnamon or cinnamon powder comes from the bark of tropical, evergreen trees. There are hundreds of types of cinnamon but only four varieties are used for commercial purposes and the main variety is Cassia Cinnamon which is mainly used in the US and Canada. The second most popular variety of cinnamon is is Ceylon Cinnamon which is mostly used in Europe, Mexico and various parts of Asia.

Dermatologist Francesca Fusco, an assistant clinical professor of dermatology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, who told Allure Magazine that along with nettle, almond oil, and cayenne, cinnamon is one of the botanicals that’s been touted as a follicle stimulator.

Albeit, there are not peer-reviewed research to confirm if there is any truth to these claims she goes on to say,
“It would probably help to stimulate blood flow to hair follicles, and that’s always a good thing,” she says, since “proper circulation is critical to healthy hair growth.”
You can also find many woman in the natural hair community who swear by cinnamon as of of their favorite hair loss remedies. While I haven’t partaken in any DIY recipes using cinnamon, I agree that any follicle stimulation is a good thing when used properly and in moderation.
We are ending with another great DIY video using one of the three C’s for fighting hair loss while aiding in hair growth. RisasRizos shares her simple recipe along with discussing her own hair problems and how this has worked for her. I’m really intrigued and think I will be trying this DIY recipe this winter.
