I am really thinking about rocking another TWA this fall and I’ve been thinking about it for A WHILE. With me working out almost daily, I’ve been struggling with frizzy, sweaty hair and I’m about sick of it.  Despite me wanting to grow it out, the thought of all the TWA hairstyles that are just waiting for me is making me really wanna take the plunge, and I wanted to share why it may be the fall hairstyle for you in 2021.

HOW TO ROCK YOUR TWA THIS SUMMER!

While it is fun to sport short hair during summer, it can be just as fun during fall.  Whether you are in hot Miami, or cold as ever New York this fall, rocking TWA hairstyles all fall and winter can be fun, stylish and make for sprucing up your look. First, let’s explain what it is.

What is a TWA?

The beloved TWA (Teeny Weeny Afro) is a staple in the natural hair movement and self-explanatory. Although hailed as an “Afro”, the TWA is just natural hair short and usually the same length all the way around. It can be in any state of curl, kink or coil and the usual styles most women start with after the Big Chop. They are one of the best short hairstyles to have fun with.  Let’s share some of the best TWA hairstyles you can have fun with this fall.

Rock “AS IS”

Rocking your TWA ‘as is’ will always be a winner and the right way to go. NEVER feel you must do something to your natural tresses if you don’t want to.   Whatever length, whatever texture, whatever you got going will always be a winner and a lovely TWA hairstyle to sport this fall or any season. Just keep it heathy and hydrated.

Shaved & Short

Yessss! Shaved will always be an amazing TWA look that will work for fall.  If you are looking for minimal effort with massive style then rocking it shaved and short is the best way to go. Wanna take it up a notch? Add some color and really go wild.

The shaved and short will take more maintenance if you want to keep it this way but it is fun, sexy as hell and allows your accessories to shine through.

TWA with Etching on sides, back

You definitely gotta hit up a barber for this look and will need to keep it up, but the flair of an etched look will be too sexy to pass up.   It’s all about the etching and begs attention.  You can always take it up a notch by adding color up top too so consider that for fall as well.

Add color!

I mentioned color already several time and for good reason. TWA hairstyles with color just pop and the bolder the better.  No one says  you have to stick to just one color so don’t feel inclined to do so. Also, go heavy on the non-traditional colors like pastels for a bigger standout feature.

Never feel like you must adhere to primary colors or what you have done in the past. This fall, it’s about standing out and the farther from primary colors the better.  You can also change it up as often as you like with hair waxes. In a nutshell, have fun.

Braid it up!

Braids are big again. I rocked them long back in the early 90s and folks are doing it again! Braids are always a great way to change up your hair and protect it but they ALSO will add some spice to your TWA. If you have enough to braid, you can sport them on your TWA and really jazz it up.

These styles are easy to create, whether you braid, twist or tie up in rubber bands. You can get as creative as you like and having a TWA  will not hinder your ability to do it if your hair is long enough to capture. Always remember you can add hair to get the look you want too.

TWA Bantu Knots

Bantu Knots are still big and look great on a TWA. Like I said before, if you got enough to twist or braid, then you’ve got enough to put into a bantu knot all over or just in certain parts of your head.  TWA hairstyles are just as lovely as hairstyles on longer tresses and even moreso when you factor in how great they look on the shorter mane. They stand out MORE.

Bantu Knots get their great look from the stylish parts as much as the knots and even if you have to add hair to make them bigger, then do it. Get the look you are striving for and enjoy this great style this fall.

Hats, headwraps and headbands, oh my!

Hats and headwraps are going to be big this fall and the vast amount of choices will have your TWA head spinning. There is just so much to choose from and each one will accentuate your look and step up your style easily.   I LOVE what Etsy and Amazon has to offer and many are black or women owned and will allow you to support our people while looking fab.

Throwing on a hat or headwrap just to get out the door is no longer the optimal reason for rocking one.  They ADD to your look and just look great with a TWA. Opt for a satin-lined one to help protect your hair and have fun with the colors, prints, textures and styles so readily avaialbe now.

By no means is this list of TWA hairstyles the only way to rock your hair in fall 2021. This list is just of the top ways. Anyway you feel will be just as gorgeous and give your look what it needs to make you stand out at events, parties or date night. Have fun with your TWA this fall and whether you decide to rock a wig, throw in some braids or just juice up your TWA, remember your hair is YOURS and how you choose to wear it is perfect.
